How my heli-hobby started

My RC helicopters start

So, there I was, pulling up to the familiar flying field with one of my r/c planes (a Giant Stinger), intending to put in a few flights before the sun set. There were several people there that I had never flown with before, and one guy had a Nexus 30 helicopter on a training gear. I had seen a few helis fly before and heard horror stories about how difficult they were to control.

So, after helping the others with their planes, the guy with the Nexus asked me if I wanted to give it a try. I immediately said, "NO WAY!", knowing that I'd crash and destroy his new toy within seconds. Well, he insisted, and before I knew what was happening, I was attempting to fly the dang thing!

I remember that it felt like it was on a giant block of ice - and a not very flat piece at that! The thing kept sliding off to some direction all by itself! I also remember saying, "I HATE this thing - I GOTTA get one!". I said that over and over when I was attempting to fly it.

As soon as I got home, I picked up the modeler's bible (Tower Hobbies catalog) and ordered a Nexus. Now that you know how it all started, click on the column to the left and read about some of my experiences with these ships.

Find out a bit more about me...
